Major General Oluwafemi Williams, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, has reaffirmed the brigade’s dedication to addressing security challenges in Kwara State and its environs. Speaking during the 2024 Nigerian Army Social Activity at the brigade’s headquarters on Friday, Williams detailed the unit’s extensive efforts in combating terrorism, insurgency, and other criminal activities in the region.
The commander highlighted the brigade’s successful operations in key areas, including Nanu Forest in Kaiama, Babanla Forest in Ifelodun, and Gbugbu Forest in Edu Local Government Areas. These operations led to the arrest of several criminal elements and the displacement of groups such as ISWAP terrorists and bandits. Additionally, the brigade has maintained consistent efforts to resolve farmer-herder conflicts in parts of Kwara South, ensuring community stability.
Williams credited the achievements to the dedication of the brigade’s personnel and the collaborative efforts with local security agencies and community leaders. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from the people and government of Kwara State, which has been instrumental in sustaining peace in the region.
The commander expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, for supporting the brigade with developmental projects and resources necessary to fulfill its mandate. He emphasized that the brigade remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities under its jurisdiction.
