The Nigeria Army today reported another victory against terrorists in one of its operations. The Terrorists were attacked and eliminated by Nigerian Army troops in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.
The operation, which focused on terrorist hotspots in Ashagashiya and Pulka, successfully secured the release of nine children and seven women who had been held hostage by the terrorists.
According to a statement released by the official handle of the Nigerian Army on X, the troops stationed in the Northeast have made significant progress against terrorist activities in the area by working with vigilante and other non state actors. As a result of these operations, terrorists have been neutralized, hostages have been freed, and weapons and other items have been recovered.
The Army statement read in part, “Terrorists’ staging areas around Pulka and Ashagashiya were the target of an ambush conducted by troops in the Gwoza Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.”
One terrorist was killed during the exchange of gunfire, the rest of the terrorists abandoned their weapons while fleeing from the scene. The Nigerian military recovered three bicycles, four blankets, a submachine gun (SMG), and cooking utensils.
In a related incident, it was reported that the military neutralized one terrorist in the Komala general region of Borno State and found two AK-47 rifles with two magazines that held 91 belted links of PKT ammunition and 29 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. A motorcycle, two AK-47 weapons, one SMG magazine, nine rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and one SMG were among the other items found during the search.
Troops in Benue State reacted to information received from intelligence regarding terrorist activities in Ayati Village, Ukum LGA, and upon spotting the forces, the terrorists took off, leaving behind an AK-47 rifle, a Dane gun, two 83 mm launchers, four locally manufactured launchers, and a rifle magazine. Along with other various armaments, the forces also found five rounds of 5.56 x 45 mm and 19 rounds of 7.62 millimeter ammunition.
Troops in Kogi State took action in response to information of a ransom payment to kidnappers, coordinating with neighborhood hunters and vigilantes, and confronting the abductors at the agreed-upon swap location in Okunran Okoloke General Area. One kidnapper was killed during the confrontation, and a motorcycle and an AK-47 weapon with a magazine holding fifteen rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition were found.
