Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium will serve as the primary venue for the women’s team starting next season due to a remarkable surge in interest, the club announced on Tuesday.
Arsenal revealed plans for 11 matches to be held at the stadium during the 2024/25 season – eight Women’s Super League (WSL) games and three Champions League matches, should the team qualify for the group stages.
Additionally, any home legs in Champions League knockout ties will also be hosted at the Emirates. All remaining fixtures, including domestic cup matches, will be held at Arsenal’s Meadow Park ground, located in London’s commuter belt.
The six WSL games played at the Emirates this season attracted an average attendance of over 52,000, with two sold-out matches and three WSL attendance records broken.
Vinai Venkatesham, Arsenal’s chief executive, expressed, “We have witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of fans attending games at Emirates Stadium, including two complete sell-outs this season.” He added, “The next phase in our journey is to establish Emirates Stadium as the primary home for Arsenal Women, providing more supporters with the opportunity to watch our women’s team in action.”
Jonas Eidevall, head coach of Arsenal Women, stated, “We share a special bond with our supporters, who have turned out in large numbers and motivated us every step of the way.”He continued, “In the upcoming season, Emirates Stadium will become our main venue, and we are eagerly anticipating playing in front of larger crowds every week.”
