Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, has been sent to a correctional facility in Ilaro, Ogun State, following his arraignment before the Ifo Magistrate Court. The Nigeria Police Force has charged the traditional ruler on three counts.

The monarch, accused of assault, was denied immediate release after failing to comply with the court’s bail requirements. He appeared in court on Tuesday to answer a three-count allegation brought against him by the Nigeria Police Force. The allegations include conspiracy, assault, and conduct that could lead to a disturbance of public peace.

These claims originate from a widely circulated video allegedly showing the king angrily and physically beating Areola Abraham, an old chief in his community. In the distressing video, which has gone viral on social media, the suspended traditional ruler is shown berating Abraham, accusing him of conspiracy, and threatening him with severe repercussions.

During the court proceedings, the traditional ruler pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him.Despite his plea, the presiding magistrate set bail at a substantial sum of ₦5 million, coupled with stringent conditions requiring two sureties who must also each deposit ₦5 million.

However, as of the time of reporting, the monarch was unable to fulfil these bail conditions, resulting in his remand at the correctional facility in Ilaro. The case has been adjourned to March 6 for further hearing, allowing both the prosecution and the defence ample time to prepare their respective cases.
