Tragedy struck in the new year eve in Zamfara state as no fewer than six passengers have been abducted as Armed bandits attacked travellers on the Shinkafi road near Kwanar Jalaf village under the Shinkafi Local Government Area of the state.
Residents and commuters in the vicinity were even more alarmed after the Tuesday morning incident, in which the attackers kidnapped six people in a golf car and burnt the car on fire.
The incident occurs just one week after, in the New Year 2025, infamous bandit leader Bello Turji threatened to use violence against defenceless residents of Isah and other nearby areas in Sokoto State, as well as the settlements of Shinkafi and Zurmi in Zamfara State.
Before performing the kidnappings and setting the automobile on fire, locals told the media that the armed men had blocked the road and forced the car to stop.
According to a resident who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, “Six travellers were abducted and their vehicle was set ablaze; we don’t know if it was the Turji group because he had threatened residents of Shinkafi and other local communities around.”
People living in Shinkafi and other communities under threat from the terrorist kingpin are becoming increasingly alarmed about the situation and are urging the government to act swiftly to stop the bandit groups’ increasing activity in the area.
ASP Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, has not yet been contacted for any information.
