On Tuesday, criminal groups known as bandits attacked military installations in Niger and Kaduna States, inflicting casualties on soldiers.
The bandits attack army bases incident reportedly resulted in several fatalities, with four soldiers currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
According to the Nigerian Army, the coordinated attacks took place at forward operating bases in Kwanar Dutse and Boka areas.
A third target, located in Aungwan Turai, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna, also came under heavy gunfire from bandits.
The bandits attack army bases scenario prompted swift retaliation by Nigerian troops, supported by coordinated land and air military components.
In an official X post on Wednesday, the army confirmed the elimination of numerous bandits during the counter-offensive operations.
“Troops launched decisive counterattacks and neutralized several terrorists involved in the multiple-pronged attacks across both northern states,” the statement said.
Unfortunately, the army acknowledged the loss of some soldiers during the operation but withheld the exact casualty figures at present.
Troops on ground successfully repelled the coordinated strike and secured key forward operating positions despite intense enemy firepower.
The bandits attack army bases operation comes amid rising insecurity in northern Nigeria and intensified military efforts to curb insurgency.
The Nigerian Army reassured the public of its continued readiness to protect communities and deter future violent bandit incursions.
Military medical personnel are currently stabilizing the wounded soldiers, with recovery efforts ongoing in affected battle zones.
As security forces pursue fleeing attackers, aerial surveillance and ground reinforcement have intensified in Niger and Kaduna axis corridors.
The Defence Headquarters has promised to release further updates as more intelligence and battle assessments become available in coming days.
