Besides a domestic treble with Barcelona, Raphinha became a fan favourite with his impressive performance in big games, especially in the just concluded Champions League.
Raphinha raked 22 goals and assists in just 14 matches in the Champions League this season. He is the highest goal scorer in the Champions League this season with 13 goals.
As people are celebrating Paris Saint German’s coach Luis Enrique, as a former Barcelona player, coach, and legend on winning the Champions League, Barcelona is equally celebrating Raphinha whom has emerged winner of top goal scorer in the Champions League.
Historically, two coaches that have won the treble in European football twice across competitions are former Barcelona players, coaches and legends, Luis Enrique and Pep Guardiola. They both did it with two different clubs.
Pep Guardiola won the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League in 2008/09 season as Barcelona coach. He won the treble of Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in 2022/23 season, as Manchester City coach.
On the other hand, Luis Enrique won the treble of Liga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League in 2015, as Barcelona coach. He has currently won the treble of Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Champions League, as PSG’s coach.
Football fanbase applaud this as football heritage. Barcelona had a great run in the champions league and only lost out of three competition in the Semi-finals. This greatly reduced Raphinha’s chances at winning the Ballon d’Or, which public opinion had earlier favoured.
However, winning the top scorer award in the 2025 champions league is a testament of his abilities and amazing contributions to the game this season. He is still on a high rank on the Ballon d’Or table but fans across fanbase doubt the likely possibility of him winning it.
