The Bayelsa State Governor, Gov. Douye Diri on Friday June 21 2024 reiterated the state government’s readiness to prosecute the former state Minister for Petroluem and Natural Resources who is also an Ex Governor of the State, H.E Timipre Silva for the death of George Sibo who was killed in Brass during the November 2023 Gubernatorial elections in the state.
George Sibo, who until his death was an election agent and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was said to have died inside the Independent National Electoral Commission Collation Center in Brass Local Government Area during the election.
Senator Douye Diri, the Bayelsa State governor, ordered the state Attorney General to file a lawsuit against Sylva in connection with the incident, during the deceased’s burial on Thursday in Twon-Brass.
He affirmed despite being provoked by Timipre Sylva who was the APC candidate in the election, who refused the PDP from conducting its campaign in his community of Nembe-Bassambiri, he declined to use his authority as the state’s chief security officer.
Diri emphasized that he purposefully refrained from confronting the APC candidate’s excesses while serving as Governor since doing so would have caused the deaths of innocent people.
“There are many questions to answer,” he remarked. What was Timipre Sylva, the APC candidate, doing at the Twon-Brass collation center the day after the election? Why did he go there with his gang of thugs which occasioned the death of George Sibo?
“I ordered that an autopsy be performed, which has been done, because I am in pain. In addition, I have instructed the Attorney General to file a lawsuit against Timipre Sylva and everyone else involved in the invasion of the collation center that resulted in George Sibo’s death.
“Legal action will be taken by the Attorney General of Bayelsa State to identify his killers. The purpose of the Bayelsa State government is to safeguard the lives of its citizens. I come to grieve with you as we bid farewell to a bright future for our state and the Brass Kingdom.”
