Peter Obi has praised President Bola Tinubu for finally deciding to visit the scene of the Benue killings.
He described the President’s planned condolence visit as a welcome step but stressed that it remains far from enough.
According to Obi, a Tinubu visit to Niger is urgently needed following the devastating floods in the Mokwa area.
Obi emphasized that these tragedies require more than sympathy; they demand immediate presidential attention and physical presence on ground.
He urged the President to treat all tragedies equally and not neglect the suffering of victims in Niger State.
Obi said that a Tinubu visit to Niger would prove that every Nigerian life matters, regardless of location or status.
He noted that over 200 lives were lost in Mokwa, with more than 1,000 persons still unaccounted for today.
He compared this with South Africa, where President Ramaphosa traveled a longer distance to visit fewer flood victims personally.
Obi stated that leadership must not operate remotely but must be present with compassion, urgency, and visible commitment to action.
He argued that a Tinubu visit to Niger would send a strong national message that no Nigerian community is forgotten.
Obi added that Abuja is not far from Makurdi or Mokwa, making such visits both feasible and symbolically significant.
He called for proactive security and disaster preparedness measures, especially in areas repeatedly affected by violence or natural disasters.
The former governor concluded that Nigerians need more than words—they need a President who leads by showing up and acting.
According to him, the pain of affected families cannot be healed by speeches but by empathy demonstrated through presidential presence.
He urged Tinubu to rise beyond routine schedules and show Nigeria what true leadership means during national tragedy and loss
