The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has relocated to Makurdi, the Benue State capital, over the incessant killings of innocent villagers by herders and militia groups. The killings have taken a drastic turn with mothers, children, men and youths being murdered by armed herders and militia often.
Just on Sunday in Edikwu Ankpali, Benue State, suspected herdsmen stormed the village, killing over 25 people, including 11 from one family.
Former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on Wednesday, commended the Chief of Army Staff’s strategy of moving to Benue to tackle the incessant attacks and killings of villagers and farmers.
Mr Obi said, “I commend the recent move by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oloyede, to relocate along with Principal Staff Officers to Benue State. This decision signals a welcome shift toward prioritizing the security of a region that has endured far too much bloodshed.
“I earnestly pray that this action brings lasting change for the good and resilient people of Benue, who deserve not only protection but also meaningful justice, and the freedom to live, farm, and work in peace without fear.”
