Brentford delivered a spirited performance to secure a 2-2 draw against defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Tuesday night at the Gtech Community Stadium. The Bees fought back from two goals down to earn a crucial point against the high-flying Cityzens.
Manchester City took the lead through Phil Foden, who scored twice in the second half. Foden’s first goal came in the 66th minute, courtesy of a perfectly delivered cross from Kevin De Bruyne. The Englishman capitalized on the opportunity, calmly slotting the ball into the net.
Just 12 minutes later, Foden doubled the advantage. Savinho’s initial attempt was denied by Brentford’s goalkeeper after a defensive error by Mads Roerslev, but Foden was quick to pounce on the rebound, giving City a 2-0 lead and seemingly securing the victory.
However, Brentford had other plans. Congolese striker Yoane Wissa reignited the Bees’ hopes in the 82nd minute with a powerful finish from Roerslev’s cross, taking his tally for the club to 37 EPL goals, the highest in their history.
In the dying moments of the match, Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard completed the comeback. Rising to meet a well-placed cross from Keane Lewis-Potter in stoppage time, Norgaard’s header found the back of the net, earning Brentford a well-deserved draw. The result leaves Manchester City in sixth place on the league table with 35 points, while Brentford sits in 10th with 28 points.
