Following an inquiry that cleared them of charges of certificate racketeering and extortion, the administration of Lagos State University, or LASU, has summoned back Professors Hammed Mutalib and Tajudeen Olumoko, the former Dean of Students Affairs (DSA).
Remember how the university’s administration suspended Professors Olumoko and Mutalib in November 2023 after a
media report claimed that a syndicate was selling credentials for N2–3 million, depending on the degree of study?
The controversy was closely associated with Olumoko.
Olumoko was questioned and asked to clarify his involvement in the situation.
While the Lagos State House of Assembly and the school senate launched investigations, the management replaced
Olumoko as DSA with Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science.

However, Prof. Olumoko was recently seen in the school with some students in his department. Upon further
investigation, it was revealed that he had resumed teaching in November 2024.
Contacted multiple times, the Lagos State University registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, could not be reached.
His phone number displayed “busy.
“Professor Olumoko has been reinstated because the investigation has been completed, and he has been cleared,”
Fanu explained when he eventually returned the phone call.
Attempts to contact Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the LASU Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public
Relations, for additional information were unsuccessful. As of this writing, she had not received a response to any of
the WhatsApp or SMS messages that were sent to her.
