The alleged NCC crisis does not exist, according to a civil society group, Movement for Truth and Justice. This group firmly defended Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), stating the reports lack basis and reflect political motives.
During a press conference in Abuja, the group’s convener, Comrade Grace Ujata, condemned what she described as a deliberate media attack. She asserted that these efforts aimed to discredit Dr. Maida and to fabricate a false crisis within the Commission.
“We recognize a deliberate effort to target Dr. Aminu Maida. The objective appears politically charged,” Ujata declared.
Ujata revealed plans by certain political actors to install a preferred female candidate in Dr. Maida’s position. She promised that if the campaign persists, the group will publicly name those behind it.
“Some insiders want to oust him in favor of someone with ties to powerful figures in government,” she explained.
According to Ujata, internal tensions stem from NCC officials who failed promotional exams and now support smear campaigns. These individuals, she claimed, exploit the media to fuel resentment and destabilize the Commission for selfish reasons.
“This campaign comes from disgruntled elements pursuing personal agendas. Their actions hurt the Commission’s progress and national interest,” she said.
Despite these distractions, the group lauded Dr. Maida’s leadership as visionary, aligning seamlessly with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Ujata emphasized his contributions to institutional reforms and digital innovation.
“Dr. Maida continues to drive transparency, efficiency, and innovation across the NCC. His leadership deserves national support,” Ujata affirmed.
The group called on journalists to reject manipulation and embrace professionalism in their work.
“The media must resist being used for blackmail. Ethical journalism demands truth, objectivity, and verification,” Ujata concluded.
