The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the first-ever Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CBWASSCE) for private candidates will begin this Friday, October 25, 2024. The groundbreaking initiative will run until December 20, 2024, marking a significant shift in the examination process.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, WAEC confirmed that the examination will follow a hybrid format. Multiple-choice questions will be presented on-screen for candidates to answer directly, while essay and practical sections will also be displayed on-screen but completed using traditional answer booklets. This blend of digital and manual testing aims to offer flexibility and convenience to candidates.
WAEC spokesperson, Adesina Fadekemi, highlighted that for candidates who prefer the conventional method, there will be an option to take the entire exam using the paper and pen format. The examination body also announced that the registration period has been extended until October 29, 2024, to accommodate more applicants.
Additionally, WAEC introduced a “Walk-in Candidate” feature, allowing candidates to register up to 24 hours before their chosen paper. This flexible option is designed to provide late registrants with an opportunity to participate in the exam without prior long-term registration.
The final timetable for the examination has been made available for download on the WAEC Nigeria website, ensuring that all candidates are well-informed about the schedule and prepared for the new format.
