Social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has come under scrutiny after claiming N180 million was stolen from his NGO account following a hack on its website. This revelation comes two months after Otse launched the NGO with significant public support, including a N100 million donation from music producer Don Jazzy.
Otse announced the alleged theft in an Instagram video on Friday, stating, “Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and I don’t know how they did it. N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and we are on our way to Jos. They have arrested one. The account now has N20 million and has been placed on PND (Post No Debit).”
However, the social media response has been swift, with many Nigerians raising questions about the incident. Critics have expressed skepticism over the account’s security and how such a substantial sum could be hacked. One user, Pamilerin Adegoke, questioned the situation: “Is the money inside a bank account opened for the NGO or on the website? Please explain like a Primary 2 pupil.”
Further doubts arose when reports surfaced suggesting that Otse had recently acquired a Mercedes Benz AMG. Social media users also questioned the judgment of donors who contributed millions without sufficient accountability mechanisms in place. One commenter, Oiza, remarked, “You carry money give VDM. For what exactly? Bunch of clout chasers. Una money don move.”
