The average retail price of 5kg LPG (cooking gas) increased by 13.75% from N6,521.58 in April 2024 to N7,418.45 in May 2024. Compared to the price in May 2023, the retail price of 5kg cooking gas increased by 70.12% from N4,360.69 in May 2023 to the current value.This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) LPG Price Surveillance for May 2023.
The report revealed that the highest average price for refilling a 5kg cooking gas cylinder was in Benue at 8,012.03 naira, followed by Enugu at 7,926.21 naira and Ondo at N7,857.53.Conversely, Yobe had it at 5,842.31 naira.
The cheapest were Jigawa and Katsina at 6,521.81 naira and 6,567.95 naira respectively.Furthermore, a zone-wise analysis revealed that the highest average retail price of LPG 5kg bottle refill was in the South-East at N7,680.87 followed by the South-West at N7,071.84, while the lowest was recorded at N7,071.84.
The average retail price of LPG (cooking gas) 12.5kg cylinder refill decreased by 0.07% month-on-month from N15,637.74 in April 2024 to N15,627.40 in May 2024.
However, year-on-year Analysis of state profiles showed that the highest average retail price for filling up a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas was in Zamfara at N18,369.33, followed by Bayelsa at N17,772.21 and Abia at N17,538.02.Furthermore, the lowest average price was recorded in Bauchi at N13,076.43, followed by Ebonyi at N13,788.09 and Taraba at N13,860.31.
Analysis by zone showed that the highest average retail price for refills was recorded in the South-South region where a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder was recorded at N16,310.02, followed by the North-West region at N15,991.13 and the North-East region recorded the lowest price at N15,010.62.
