Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has hinted that Former Governor James Ibori is expected to be welcomed to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as he expressed optimism that Mr Ibori would take such steps soonest.
Oborevwori emphasised the importance of Urhobo political class unity during Tuesday’s vigil mass held at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area, in honour of former Deputy Governor of the state Professor Amos Utuama.
Paying glowing tribute to the late Prof. Amos Utuama, the Governor highlighted his selfless contributions, mentioning, “I am very happy to be here today, seeing this large gathering for one man. The preaching today is not about the dead; it is about the living.
“There are many things he did while he was alive. I will mention just a few key ones. The land allocated to him in Asaba while he was Deputy Governor; he donated it to the Catholic Church and also contributed to building the church. To me, that is a kingdom investment.”
Governor Oborevwori hoped that Ughelli South and the Urhobo people as a whole would experience peace and harmony following the loss of the late Prof. Utuama.
He praised Utuama’s merits and said, “He lived well and died well,” indicating that he led a meaningful life.
Most Rev. Anthony Ewherido, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, confirmed in his exhortation that the late Prof. Amos Utuama had a significant influence on society and the Church.
The family received condolences from Bishop Ewherido, who also encouraged them to continue his legacy of selflessness, humility, generosity, and holiness.
He reminded everyone that in order to enjoy eternity after physical death, one must accept Christ while still living. He further explained that a Christian’s death is a transition to eternal glory.
For Delta State’s peace and progress, the Bishop urged the political elite to remain united.
Mr Ovie Utuama, the deceased’s son, spoke on behalf of the family, asking for prayers at this trying time and thanking everyone for their support.
