Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, recently celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the state’s creation, highlighting its impressive progress and emerging status as a significant player among Nigerian states. The Governor made these remarks during a special thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel in Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori reflected on Delta State’s journey over the past 33 years, describing it as a period filled with both challenges and accomplishments. He noted that the state has evolved into a strong and vibrant part of Nigeria. “In these 33 years, Delta State has grown into a key component of the Nigerian federation,” he said. “Our people are celebrated for their entrepreneurial spirit and innovation, which is recognized both locally and internationally.”
Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, took the opportunity to urge residents to remain united in prayer for the state. He emphasized the importance of trusting in God for protection and guidance. “Our trust should be in God alone. He is the one who can protect and lead us towards success,” Nwoko stated. He reassured Deltans that the future holds promise and that the state’s progress will continue.
Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle of Living Faith Church delivered a sermon titled “The Power of Collective Thanksgiving.” He stressed the importance of acknowledging and thanking God for the blessings and achievements experienced by both individuals and the state as a whole. “Expressing gratitude for what God has done will lead to more positive changes in our lives,” Pastor Adekunle said. He encouraged residents to stay close to God and prayed for continued peace and unity within the state.
During the service, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme read from Psalm 136, which underscores the importance of giving thanks to God. The service also included prayers specifically for Delta State, focusing on the state’s ongoing growth and prosperity.
Senator Nwoko, in a statement from Abuja, praised the resilience and determination of Delta’s people over the past 30 years. He acknowledged the steady progress the state has made and encouraged residents to support the PDP-led government, which is working diligently to bring development and benefits to the people.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Dennis Guwor, also addressed the anniversary, highlighting the significant strides made by the state since its creation on August 27, 1991. Through a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor acknowledged the determination and hard work of Delta’s people, describing the state as a beacon of hope and opportunity. He expressed optimism for continued progress and development in the coming years.
