Delta Police Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South LGA, following a sharp increase in kidnappings and armed robberies.
The decision was prompted by a wave of complaints circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms about the deteriorating security in the community. The commissioner explained that the escalating criminal activities necessitated a strategic shift in the security apparatus.
In response, the incumbent DPO was removed and reassigned to ensure a more proactive and effective approach against lawlessness in the area. Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Aina Adesola, has been directed to deploy tactical teams across key locations in Ogwashi-Uku. These specialized units will be tasked with rapid response and intervention to neutralize criminal threats and restore public confidence.
In addition, combat operatives from the Dragon Patrol, Eagle-Net, and the Rapid Response Squad have been strategically stationed to target criminal hotspots. The Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad has also been relocated to Ogwashi-Uku to intensify intelligence-driven efforts aimed at identifying and apprehending perpetrators.
The State Intelligence Department is actively involved in supporting these operations, conducting undercover work and gathering critical intelligence to further disrupt criminal networks.
Commissioner Abaniwonda reassured residents that safety remains the highest priority. He urged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity through the dedicated emergency lines, and cooperate fully with law enforcement, emphasizing that the state will exhibit zero tolerance for criminal behavior.
