A former presidential spokesperson, Doyin Okupe, has said that he will never engage any public denigration of the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, as he played a role in Obi’s political rise.
Okupe played a role as the Director of Obi’s Presidential Campaign until he was made to step down before the election after a court found him guilty of money laundering. He, however, resigned as a member of Labour Party after the election, which aroused suspicions.
Okupe, after his resignation from the Labour Party, has preoccupied himself with vocally supporting the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Okupe has made clarification with regard to certain comments he made recently about Peter Obi. He mentioned that he wasn’t attacking Obi but was correcting him on a comment he allegedly made about Yoruba people.
“I cannot hate Peter Obi; I am sentimentally attached to him. Peter Obi was my project, and I am part and parcel of those who built Peter Obi up; I can’t publicly denigrate that or bring down that house,” Okupe said.
“But you know, when the sensibilities of some of us are affected, especially when it becomes a zonal matter, I mean when you call the entire Yoruba race out, I am an elder statesman and primarily a Yoruba man,” he added.
He asserted that if he cannot speak the truth to any individual at his age, then there is no point to living. Expressing that what Peter Obi said was wrong, regarding his comments about Emilokan and whether the people in Ogun State are buying bread cheaper.
Okupe asserted that Bola Tinubu’s comment about Emilokan was not an address to the nation but rather a rally. “He was addressing APC delegates on the premises of the Ogun State government who were going to the APC convention that they should vote for him.” He added.
