The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has named D’Tigress’ Rene Wakama as the best coach of the Paris 2024 Olympics Women’s Basketball tournament. According to a tweet on the official X handle of the International Basketball Federation, “Best coach of #Paris2024 Women’s Basketball, Rene Wakama, Nigeria,” was announced on Sunday evening.
Wakama, aged 32, guided the female basketball team to their first-ever quarterfinal appearance at the Olympic Games after they defeated Canada by a score of 79-70. Regrettably, the team’s journey at the Olympics was cut short when they lost to the United States by a score of 88-74 in the quarterfinals of the women’s basketball event.
Despite this outcome, the team still made an impressive record by becoming the only African basketball team (men and women) to progress to the last 16 at the event.
