The Ebonyi State Government has dismissed reports that five commissioners were arrested over delays in project delivery and breach of contracts.
According to a statement issued by Chief Donatus Ilang, Chairman of the Ebonyi Executive Council (EXCO) committee, the report is false and unfounded.Ilang, who is also the Commissioner for Border, Peace and Conflict Resolution, described the report as a fabrication with no basis in reality.
He emphasized that no commissioner was arrested and that the police and other security agencies can confirm this. The report in question had alleged that Governor Francis Nwifuru ordered the arrest of five commissioners over their handling of state projects.
However, Ilang’s statement has put the record straight, stating that the governor only expressed displeasure over delays in project delivery. The Ebonyi State Government had initiated a project to build 140 housing units for the Izzo and Amaze communities, which were displaced by a communal crisis.

However, the project has been plagued by delays, prompting the governor’s intervention.Ilang explained that the commissioners involved in the project had been given an ultimatum to furnish the committee with relevant information to enable it to confront the erring contractors.
The Ebonyi Police Command has also corroborated Ilang’s statement, with the Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, stating that no commissioner is in their custody.
The Ebonyi State Government has reiterated its commitment to completing the housing project, which is aimed at providing relief to the displaced communities.Ilang emphasized that the government will not tolerate any further delays or breaches of contract, and will take drastic actions against defaulters.
