Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended three commissioners from his cabinet due to their unapproved absence from official duties.
The affected commissioners are Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development). The suspension was announced by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, during a briefing on the outcomes of the executive council meeting.
According to Okpor, the governor had issued a strong warning against absenteeism and a lackadaisical attitude towards work among public servants. The three commissioners were suspended for one month without pay and will be stripped of all privileges associated with their offices during the suspension period.
This move is seen as a crackdown on absenteeism and a push for greater accountability among public officials. In addition to the suspensions, Governor Nwifuru also directed all contractors handling government projects in the state to accelerate their work in line with contractual agreements.
