The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has initiated a strategic overhaul aimed at revitalizing the party’s electoral fortunes in upcoming state elections. According to Steve Oruruo, the newly appointed Caretaker Committee chairman, efforts are underway to mend fences with disaffected former members and unify the party.
Oruruo made these remarks during a visit with party leaders to Dr. Willie Etim, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Abakiliki. He highlighted that the National Working Committee of the PDP is committed to restructuring and rejuvenating the party in Ebonyi State, leading to the establishment of a new leadership.
“There has been a need for introspection in our leadership. To achieve effective governance and foster productivity in politics, we require competent personnel,” Oruruo remarked. “The national leadership of the PDP is driven by a renewed sense of purpose and revitalization, especially in Ebonyi State.”
“We acknowledge past disagreements among stakeholders which have fragmented and weakened the party. This new leadership aims to resolve internal conflicts and fortify the party structure,” Oruruo added. “Our goal is to eliminate discord and focus on creating an environment of fairness, adherence to party principles, and respect for the rule of law.
“Addressing reports about prominent party member Senator Anyim Pius Anyim’s alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oruruo clarified, “In democracy, individuals choose political parties based on their aspirations and perceived opportunities for success. As of today, Senator Anyim Pius remains a member of the PDP. Political affiliations are personal decisions, akin to a journey towards one’s goals.
“Oruruo emphasized, “We operate on confirmed information, and I can confirm that Senator Anyim Pius has not joined the APC. We affirm our commitment to unity and progress within the PDP.
“In conclusion, Oruruo underscored the PDP’s dedication to reconciliation, unity, and effective leadership in Ebonyi State, expressing confidence in the party’s resurgence under the new leadership’s stewardship.
