The Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, has suffered a defeat in his polling unit. He obtained 32 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate received 41 votes. At polling unit PU11, Ward 06, Oredo Local Government Area, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, secured 19 votes.
Olumide Akpata had after casting his vote at his polling unit advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the voting experience he encountered at his polling unit was replicated across the state, allowing the will of the people to be fully expressed.
According to his statement, the electoral process proceeded well, but he refrained from making any firm assumptions, opting to wait for feedback from his agents deployed throughout the 192 wards and 4500 polling units in the state.
The Edo State Governor Godswill Obaseki after casting his vote, commended the electoral process at his polling unit and praised the voters who came out to participate despite the heavy rain experienced in the state.
He expressed his satisfaction with the level of voter enthusiasm, stating that the ballot box in his polling unit was already full, indicating a strong public interest in the election. Obaseki further expressed his optimism that the collation process would be peaceful, and the results would be counted without any disruptions. He also welcomed the substantial presence of federal security agencies in the state.
Obaseki further stated that the electoral process must be conducted transparently, allowing all stakeholders to observe and confirm that it adheres to the provisions of the law, the Electoral Act, and the Constitution. INEC has no excuse, as this is an off-cycle election, providing the Commission with the opportunity to allocate its resources accordingly.
