The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of voters, including PDP members and supporters, who were illegally arrested by allegedly compromised security operatives while peacefully queuing to vote in the ongoing Governorship election in Edo State.
The PDP insisted that this was part of a coordinated plot by the APC, in collusion with certain allegedly compromised Police officials, to harass, intimidate, and suppress the people of Edo State, having realized they APC had lost at the poll.
A specific instance is the Gestapo-style abduction of a voter by APC-controlled gunmen at Uromi Ward 8, Unit 3 while the voters were in the queue to cast their vote.
This act further confirms the APC is panicked and in fear of defeat in the face of the imminent victory of the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who enjoys the overwhelming support and solidarity of the people of Edo State. The PDP had previously alerted the public of a disturbing scheme by the APC to subvert the electoral process through the terrorization of voters.
The PDP advised citizens not to be intimidated or compelled to surrender in the face of aggression or terror, having rejected the APC and should be steadfast in this resolve. The PDP urges the people of Edo State to maintain resilience and safeguard their democratic rights, votes, and ultimate electoral triumph.
