Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially introduced six new commissioners into the state’s Executive Council, signalling a renewed commitment to the state’s development. The appointment of the commissioners was confirmed following a swearing-in ceremony held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City. In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the governor emphasised that the new executives should hit the ground running to expedite the state’s development agenda.
The six newly appointed commissioners are tasked with leading key ministries that will drive policies in crucial sectors. The appointees are Paul Ohonbamu, who will head the Ministry of Information and Communication; Dr. Washington Osifo, assigned to the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy; Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, appointed to the Ministry of Education; Lucky Eseigbe, who will oversee the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Andrew Ijegbai, who will manage the Ministry of Mining; and Marie Olabisi-Idaomi, who will lead the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. These appointments are intended to enhance governance in the state and ensure that key initiatives are well executed.
In his address to the newly appointed executives, Governor Okpebholo underlined the importance of teamwork and service to the people. He reminded the commissioners that their roles are not just positions of honour but also of great responsibility. The governor stressed the need for efficiency, integrity, and a shared focus on improving the quality of life for Edo residents, and he urged the appointees to work in unison toward achieving these goals.
