The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has questioned former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju
Kennedy Ohanenye, over her alleged involvement in the misappropriation of N138,413,253.89. The former minister
was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where she faced interrogators over her role in the alleged fraud.
According to sources, Kennedy Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 am and was still being
questioned at the time of reporting. The former minister is accused of violating procurement processes and diverting
public funds meant for the ministry’s 2023 budget.
The EFCC’s investigation revealed that funds donated for the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative were diverted for
Kennedy Ohanenye’s personal enrichment. The former minister has denied any wrongdoing, but the EFCC’s findings
suggest otherwise.
Kennedy Ohanenye’s troubles began in July 2024, when a House of Representatives committee invited her to explain
the alleged diversion of N1.5 billion meant for contractors. The committee was investigating the ministry’s handling

The former minister has been accused of awarding contracts not included in the 2023 budget, while diverting funds
