Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced plans to upgrade the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport to operate 24-hour flight services. This move aims to give the airport a competitive edge among its peers in the South-West region.
The governor expressed his delight at the significant economic growth recorded in the state over the past two and a half years. He attributed this growth to the enabling environment created by his administration, which has led to the springing up of more businesses, improved internally generated revenue, and enhanced security.
Governor Oyebanji revealed that his administration intends to make the Ekiti Airport a major hub, capable of handling Hajj and Christian pilgrimage flights by next year.
To achieve this, the airport will be equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling night operations and landings in extreme weather conditions.The ILS, estimated to cost around N4.6 billion, will make the Ekiti airport one of the few in the South-West with such advanced landing technology.
Governor Oyebanji expressed his determination to install the ILS before the end of the year.In addition to the ILS, the airport will also feature a cargo shed, currently under construction, to serve as a storage facility for farm produce and cash crops.

The governor commended the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, for facilitating the inclusion of the project in the budget.
The Ekiti Airport’s transformation is expected to boost air travel, tourism, investment, and the export of farm produce to local and international destinations. Governor Oyebanji expressed optimism that the airport would become one of the most competitive in the country once commercial operations commence.
To further enhance the airport’s appeal, discussions are ongoing with three major airlines to commence commercial flights at the airport. The governor is confident that at least two of these airlines will soon begin operations at the facility.
The state government is committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, which has led to significant economic growth in the state.
