Ekiti State has engaged in a strategic collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to enhance security measures and address potential vulnerabilities stemming from poverty and disasters within the state. The formalization of this partnership took place during a visit to NIMASA headquarters in Lagos on Friday, led by a delegation headed by Abayomi Opeyemi, the Permanent Secretary at the Ekiti State Deputy Governor’s Office. The delegation comprised Oludare Asaolu, the General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (EKSEMA), and Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, Opeyemi emphasized that the collaboration seeks to design strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing security by providing cutting-edge equipment, reinforcing security frameworks, and promoting empowerment programs for marginalized communities. “We have engaged in discussions with NIMASA to establish strategies that will ensure the safety and security of Ekiti residents and their assets,”Opeyemi articulated. “Our deliberations also underscored the significance of empowering disadvantaged groups and mitigating disasters such as rainstorms, flooding, and fire incidents, all of which are pivotal components of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s policies.”
Dayo Mobereola, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMASA, represented by Heaky Dimowo, the Director of Marine Environment Management, commended the initiative. He pledged support for Ekiti in enhancing the competencies of relevant personnel and furnishing essential equipment to fortify security agencies throughout the state.
This partnership underscores Ekiti State’s dedication to safeguarding its populace and augmenting its disaster response capabilities, harnessing NIMASA’s proficiency and assets in maritime and security operations on a national scale.
