The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has thrown his weight behind the ban on Sallah Durbar celebrations in
Kano, citing the need to prioritize peace and security in the state.
According to Sanusi, the annual celebration, which marks the end of Ramadan, is not a matter of life and death, but
rather a cultural symbol that dates back to the 15th century.
Sanusi, who spoke during an Iftar dinner at the palace, emphasized that the lives and safety of Kano citizens are of
utmost importance. He commended the Commissioner of Police in Kano, Adamu Bakori, for imposing the ban, citing
impending security threats revealed by detectives.
The Emir’s decision to cancel the Sallah Durbar celebrations was welcomed by Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who
praised Sanusi’s spirit of love and kindness. The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State
Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Faruq, expressed gratitude to the Emir for prioritizing the lives of Kano citizens.

The Murshid (Chief Imam) of the National Mosque, Professor Shehu Galadanci, also aligned with the Emir’s decision,
