The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has confirmed that the Local Government Elections in Enugu State will take place as scheduled on September 21.

This announcement was made by ENSIEC Chairman, Prof. Christian Ngwu, during a briefing with the media on Sunday in Enugu.Prof. Ngwu reassured the public that all preparations for the elections are on track. He emphasized that there will be no changes to the election date, despite any speculations or concerns about possible delays or rescheduling.

According to Ngwu, the commission is strictly adhering to its established timetable, and it has received adequate financial backing from the state government to ensure that the election process is conducted smoothly and successfully.Ngwu highlighted that the commission has completed extensive planning and logistical arrangements to support the elections.

This includes coordination with various security agencies and organizations that will provide essential support services before, during, and after the election. He assured that the commission is committed to ensuring robust security measures for the protection of electoral materials, officials, and voters on the day of the election. In preparation for the elections, ENSIEC has organized a three-day training workshop for 50 key electoral officials.

These officials include Electoral Officers (EOs), heads of the commission’s units, and other critical staff members. The purpose of this training is to equip these officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage the election process.

Following this workshop, the trained officials will be responsible for training additional temporary staff who will assist in various roles across the council areas.Prof. Ngwu also noted that the commission has received interest from over 10 political parties wishing to participate in the elections.

This reflects a vibrant and competitive political environment as the elections approach. The elections will cover 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councilor seats across Enugu State, providing opportunities for a broad range of candidates to vie for public office. The ENSIEC Chairman reassured the public of the commission’s dedication to a transparent and fair election process.

He emphasized that every effort is being made to ensure that the elections are conducted efficiently, with proper security and logistical support in place.

The commission’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the election process is a top priority, and they are working diligently to address any potential challenges that may arise. The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission is fully prepared for the Local Government Elections on September 21. With extensive preparations, adequate financial support, and a focus on security and training, the commission is confident that the elections will be conducted successfully, providing a fair platform for candidates and voters alike.
