Ukubeyinje a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Misan Ukubeyinje, has called on the

Senate to review the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Ukubeyinje argued that the

suspension was unconstitutional and that the Senate had acted against its own rules.

The suspension was handed down after Senator Natasha raised concerns about her seat reallocation and alleged

sexual harassment and intimidation. However, Ukubeyinje pointed out that the Senate’s actions were unjustified and

that Senator Natasha had done nothing wrong by speaking out.

According to Ukubeyinje, the Senate’s rules dictate that a senator cannot be suspended for more than 14 days for

wrongdoing. He cited the case of Ali Ndume Vs Senate, which was decided by the Court of Appeal in 2018, to support

his argument.

The Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Natasha has sparked a constitutional debate, with many arguing that the

action was unfair and unjustified. The suspension has also raised concerns about the protection of senators’ rights

and the rule of law.

Ukubeyinje urged the Senate to immediately review its suspension of Senator Natasha and to protect her rights as a

senator. He also emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the Senate’s actions are

fair and just.

The controversy surrounding Senator Natasha’s suspension has highlighted the need for greater transparency and

accountability in the Senate. It has also raised questions about the Senate’s commitment to protecting the rights of

its members.

Another former lawmaker, West Idahosa, has criticized the Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Natasha. Idahosa

argued that the suspension was an injustice not just to Senator Natasha but to the entire country.

The suspension of Senator Natasha has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for the Senate to review its

decision. The controversy has also highlighted the need for greater accountability and transparency in the Senate.
