In a very sad development, no fewer than five persons have lost their lives in a fatal accident that occurred on Thursday night in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The accident, which occurred at midnight along the Iwo Road Ojoo motorway, was between a commercial Micra car and a truck, leaving one critically injured.
A truck and a business Micra vehicle collided on Thursday night at around midnight on the Iwo Road Ojoo motorway.
Additionally, one individual was hurt in the mishap, while six others were recovered unharmed.
The 12 passengers involved suffered terrible injuries in the accident, which was caused by a route violation, according to a statement issued by the Oyo State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps.
The release added that the injured person had been taken to a nearby hospital by the police before the arrival of road safety officials.
The identities of the victims have not been confirmed at the time of filling this report, but the five dead persons have been transferred to the mortuary.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps has reiterated the warning against route violation and excessive speed while driving.
“Motorists are always in a hurry, thereby causing avoidable loss of life,” said Rosemary Alo, the sector commander.
“Commercial vehicle owners and other road users must strictly follow the diversions placed and ply the road with patience no matter the time of day in areas where construction works are ongoing,” she said.
To permit unhindered traffic flow along the general gas axis where the accident occurred, the press release also stated that the damaged vehicles has been transported to the Akobo Police station.
