The Federal Government is advancing plans to introduce a new training program that mirrors the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) but is specifically tailored for graduates of the National Certificate in Education (NCE). This initiative aims to offer a structured service experience similar to what university graduates receive through NYSC, thereby broadening developmental opportunities for NCE graduates.
Mr. Olawande Wisdom, the Minister of State for Youth Development, revealed this exciting development at the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan on Monday. During his address, he outlined that the Ministry of Youth Development would be partnering with the Ministry of Education to roll out these new training reforms. This collaboration is expected to enhance the training infrastructure and provide comprehensive support to NCE graduates.
Wisdom stressed that the introduction of this program is crucial in addressing persistent social issues. He pointed out that while social vices have been a long-standing challenge, organizations such as the Boys’ Brigade and Girl Guides have effectively diverted many young people from engaging in such behaviors. The new training program aims to further these efforts by focusing on citizenship and personal development.
Currently, NYSC is a well-established program for university graduates, offering them the opportunity to contribute to national service while gaining valuable experience. However, there is a notable absence of a similar program for NCE graduates, who often face limited opportunities for structured post-graduation service. The forthcoming program seeks to fill this void by providing a local training scheme that will be accessible within the graduates’ home states, eliminating the need for relocation.
Wisdom also highlighted the broader scope of reforms being implemented to improve youth training and development. The goal is to rejuvenate hope and provide meaningful prospects for young Nigerians. By offering a comprehensive training program for NCE graduates, the government aims to better equip them with the skills and experience needed for their professional and personal growth.
This initiative represents a significant step towards inclusive development, ensuring that all young Nigerians, regardless of their educational background, have access to essential training and opportunities to contribute positively to society.
