The Federal Ministry of Tourism, Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy has officially endorsed the Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival, set to debut in December 2024 in Oyo State. Initiated by the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, the carnival aims to celebrate and promote the town’s cultural heritage while driving social and economic growth.
In a letter dated October 9, 2024, the Ministry commended Oba Olaoye for his efforts to foster community development through culture, noting the event’s potential for job creation, social engagement, and empowerment.
The Director of the Ministry’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Department, Akudo-Nwosu, emphasized that the carnival aligns with Nigeria’s vision of economic growth through culture, providing a unique platform to boost the creative economy.
Chairman of the planning committee, Williams Adeleye, expressed appreciation for the endorsement, confirming that the carnival will feature cultural performances, craft exhibitions, and other activities showcasing the rich heritage of Ogbomoso.
He added that the Oyo State Government has incorporated the carnival into its annual tourism calendar, further solidifying its significance in promoting local businesses and artisans.
