The Federal Government has taken delivery of 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses from Jet Motor Company in an effort to enhance the transportation sector of the country. In a statement provided to the press, the Nigerian automobile manufacturer made this disclosure. The buses, which operate on compressed natural gas and premium motor spirit, are expected to provide affordable and comfortable transportation options for the Nigerian populace.
The handover ceremony, which was held at Jet Motor Company’s plant in Ajah, Lagos State, was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas. The Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dimas Hamidu, acknowledged the high quality of the vehicles and commended the company for its commendable work.
He stated that the hybrid vehicles were a testament to the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to alleviate the hardships that may have arisen from the removal of fuel subsidies. According to Hamidu, the vehicles will significantly contribute to addressing the transportation needs of the citizens and help to mitigate the impact of rising costs on the economy.
The Honorable Minister of Finance and I recently visited the Jet Motor Company manufacturing plant, where we were given a tour of the facilities. The Minister was particularly impressed and even had the opportunity to test drive one of the vehicles. The Federal Government has awarded contracts to various companies to deliver a number of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles.
However, the public has expressed concerns about the delayed delivery of these vehicles to the market. In response, the Ministry of Finance organized this visit to the manufacturing sites to assess the progress and timelines for the deliveries. We were pleased to see that Jet Motor Company has upheld the terms of their contract and is producing the vehicles as per the specified requirements.
The Ministry is optimistic that Jet Motor Company will soon invite us back to take delivery of additional vehicles, which the President can then utilize to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by the citizens of our country. The Managing Director of Jet Motor Company, Mr. Derek Ewelukwa, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the provision of an efficient and comfortable public transportation model for the people of our nation.
