Former President Obasanjo admonish Nigerians to work for nation’s greatness

…attributes regionalism as the beginning of nation’s socioeconomic and political challenges.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday admonished Nigerians to collectively work for the greatness of the country, leaving behind the past.

During the visit of the League of Northern Democrats led by a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, in his presidential library home in Abeokuta, the elder statesman stressed the need for us to unite as a nation irrespective of our differences.

According to the former president, even though we have disappointed ourselves, the black race, Africa, and the world at large, hence our current concern as a nation is not misplaced, as evident in the fact that we have rubbished the value of integrity, no truth, no love, but it is not too late to retrace our steps. We must still not give up on our nation.

Obasanjo pinpointed regionalism as the real beginning of the nation’s socioeconomic and political challenges, expressing that the country, in his own opinion, has remained fragmented for too long, a situation that, in his opinion, has stifled the socioeconomic and political development of the country

Looking on the bright side, the former president expressed optimism that despite the challenges Nigeria is facing at this moment, the nation can be better Nigerian if the citizens can get the issue of the right leadership to provide the necessary impetus for the socioeconomic and political development of the country.

“Yes, you have identified your group as the League of Northern Democrats, but how I wish you called your group the National League of Democrats because where you come from should not be a problem. Where I was born should not be the enemy of my Nigerianess. I will be increasing by being a Nigerian rather than being a member of the Republic of Oodua, he challenged.
