The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Hajia Rabi’atu Okute, and the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Hon. Muktar Atima, embarked on a visit to the IDP camp in Abejukolo, Omala local government area of Kogi State.
The visit, part of a commitment made by Governor Ododo, aimed to assess the conditions of the camp, listen to the stories of the internally displaced persons, and deliver vital relief materials and foodstuffs to those in need.
The team’s arrival was met with gratitude and hope from the IDPs, who shared their hardships and resilience. The Commissioner and Executive Secretary not only provided essential items but also offered words of encouragement and reassurance to the vulnerable individuals.
“Governor Ododo is deeply committed to supporting the people of Omala and ensuring the safe return of IDPs to their communities. We are here today to fulfill that promise and demonstrate our solidarity with those in need,” said Hon. Hajia Rabi’atu Okute.
Hon. Muktar Atima stressed the importance of collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, and local authorities to address humanitarian needs effectively. “By working together, we can make a meaningful impact and ensure the well-being of all our citizens, especially those facing difficult circumstances,” he emphasized.
Inspecting the camp’s facilities, including water, sanitation, and healthcare services, the team engaged with camp management and stakeholders to discuss ways to improve the living conditions of the IDPs.
The Caretaker Chairman of Omala local government, Hon. Edigbo Ameh Mark, expressed gratitude to the delegation and highlighted Governor Ododo’s dedication to resolving the challenges faced by the IDPs.
As the visit concluded, the Commissioner and Executive Secretary departed with a renewed determination to continue providing support and working towards sustainable solutions for the displaced population.
