A High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging.
Ajayi was found guilty of the NYSC Corper murder involving corps member Salome Adaidu, whom he brutally killed and dismembered.
Justice Simon Aboki, who delivered the verdict on Thursday, said the evidence clearly proved Ajayi committed the horrific crime.
The court dismissed Ajayi’s claim of unconsciousness during the act, calling his excuse unbelievable and legally insufficient under the law.
According to the judgment, Ajayi was convicted under Section 221 of the Penal Code, which mandates a death sentence.
Justice Aboki said, “The law is clear. The accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging until certified dead.”
Ajayi’s arrest followed a shocking incident in Orozo, where churchgoers caught him carrying the victim’s severed head in a bag.
Further police investigations led to the discovery of Salome’s remaining body parts in his apartment in New Karshi, Karu LGA.
Salome was visiting Ajayi when the tragedy occurred, making the case one of the most disturbing NYSC Corper murder incidents.
In a viral confession video, Ajayi admitted he acted out of jealousy after reading messages on Salome’s phone.
He claimed, “I didn’t plan it. I saw her chats with other guys and lost control of my emotions.”
The case has sparked renewed concern for corps members’ safety, especially when visiting private residences during their service year.
The court’s ruling has been hailed by many as justice served for a young life tragically cut short.
Ajayi’s conviction sends a strong message that violent crimes against corps members will never go unpunished in any circumstance.
The NYSC Corper murder verdict brings closure to a case that shook Nasarawa and drew national attention for months.
