Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the appointment of Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman as the first Acting Vice Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED) in Ilorin. This appointment marks a significant milestone for the institution and for female representation in academic leadership within the state.
Professor Salman, a distinguished academic in mathematics education, previously served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Science Education at the University of Ilorin. She also held the position of coordinator at the Educational Technology Centre there. Her extensive experience in academia positions her well to lead the new university as it embarks on its mission to provide quality education and promote innovation in teaching and learning.
Born and raised in Ilorin, Professor Salman is a proud product of the region’s educational system. She obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1985. Following this, she earned her Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin in 1990. She furthered her studies by completing a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education at the same institution in 1998. Her academic achievements have established her as a leading figure in her field.
Importantly, Professor Salman is recognized as the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate, breaking barriers and serving as a role model for young women aspiring to pursue careers in education and academia. Her dedication to advancing education, particularly in mathematics, underscores her commitment to addressing gender issues in the field and ensuring that female students are encouraged and supported in their academic endeavors.
Her research interests are diverse and include mathematics education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovative teaching methods for mathematics in developing countries.
