The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jos and the Bukuru metropolitan areas. In a statement released on Sunday evening, the Governor stated that the curfew was imposed in the affected regions due to reported incidents of looting of goods in the Bauchi Road community and Zolo Junction by hoodlums on Sunday.
A statement signed by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Gyang Bere, read as follows; “In a decisive move to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, his Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Governor Mutfwang, in consultation with the state security agencies, has taken this decision after reviewing the actions of unscrupulous individuals who exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens.

He recognized their cooperation and compliance with directives during the planned nationwide protests and commended their dedication to upholding peace and unity within the state.
The Governor stated that the peaceful conduct of the people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. He urged everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as they work together to build a united and progressive Plateau.
