Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has firmly denied speculations that he is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He emphasized that Rivers State remains firmly under PDP control and that he continues to be an active member of the party.Governor Fubara made these statements to address and dispel recent rumors suggesting that he might be departing from the PDP.

These rumors had caused considerable concern among party members and supporters, prompting the need for a clear and direct response from the governor. On Tuesday, Governor Fubara had a significant meeting with a delegation from the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), which was led by Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara. This meeting took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

During this visit, Governor Fubara took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to the PDP and to reassure party members of his dedication. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara acknowledged that he had experienced moments of doubt regarding his position within the PDP. However, he stressed that the visit from the Board of Trustees had provided him with the reassurance he needed. He expressed gratitude to the delegation for their support and for their genuine engagement with the party’s issues.

Fubara commented, “I want to extend my thanks to the Chairman and all the members of the Board of Trustees. If I had any doubts about my place within this esteemed party, today’s visit has solidified my conviction that I am indeed a loyal member. Despite any external drama, I am still fully committed to the PDP. I truly appreciate the effort you have made to come to Rivers State to engage with us and our supporters in such a sincere manner. We are unwavering members of the PDP, and our dedication remains undiluted.

“The governor further noted his satisfaction at seeing prominent party leaders, including some of the PDP’s founding fathers such as Chief Bode George, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, among the delegation. Their presence underscored the importance of party unity and solidarity. Fubara emphasized that this visit and the discussions held were crucial in reinforcing the party’s strength and unity. He stated, “It is heartening to see esteemed leaders like Chief Bode George, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, who have been instrumental in the formation and growth of our party, joining the delegation.

Their involvement in discussions about our party’s unity highlights the seriousness with which we must approach our shared goals. This visit is a clear indication that our decision to remain with the PDP is not only right but essential for the party’s future.”Senator Wabara, in his address, explained the purpose of the BoT’s visit. He highlighted the recent tensions within the PDP in Rivers State and expressed the party’s deep concern about the potential loss of the state. Wabara warned that losing Rivers State would have far-reaching consequences for the future of Nigeria. He remarked, “We, the Board of Trustees, came to seek peace and unity within the PDP.

We have been observing various reports and speculations, but as elders of this party, we wanted to hear directly from you. We are thankful for your continued support, as the PDP cannot afford to falter. Losing Rivers State would be a severe setback not only for the party but for Nigeria’s future as a whole.

“Wabara concluded by emphasizing the importance of adhering to the rule of law and maintaining the party’s integrity. He urged all members to act in accordance with legal and ethical standards, assuring them that while progress might be slow, it would ultimately lead to positive outcomes. He said, “We were concerned about the possibility of losing Rivers State, which would have significant repercussions. We must avoid repeating past mistakes and ensure that our actions are always in line with the rule of law. Adhering to legal principles, though it may lead to delayed outcomes, will guide us towards the right path.”
