Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has announced an ambitious initiative to equip 100 technically skilled indigenes with lithium refining expertise at a plant in Shagamu, Ogun State. The move aims to boost local value addition and align with the state’s strategic mining policy.
During a recent visit to the lithium refining facility, Governor Sule explained that the training would focus on converting raw lithium mined in Nasarawa into refined products. This approach is designed to ensure that the state maximizes its mining revenues rather than exporting unprocessed materials.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, Governor Sule confirmed that officials from the Ganfeng Lithium Industry have committed to supporting the training program. The collaboration underscores a joint effort between the state government and industry players to build technical capacity locally.
The initiative reflects Nasarawa State’s mining policy, which mandates that mining companies establish processing plants within the state. This policy is intended to foster economic growth by ensuring that raw resources are processed domestically, thereby creating jobs and boosting local industries.
Governor Sule emphasized that this training program is not only about skill development but also about tracking the lithium supply chain from extraction to refined output.
