Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA) has taken proactive steps in flood preparedness by engaging key humanitarian organizations, the Nigerian Red Cross and Save The Children International Organization.
In a recent meeting with the Nigerian Red Cross, KOSEMA discussed the 2024 flood predictions released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and emphasized the importance of collaborative disaster risk reduction efforts. The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, highlighted the critical role of the Nigerian Red Cross in disaster management and sought effective collaboration to enhance preparedness measures. Alhaji Atimah stated, “Disaster risk reduction is a collective problem that requires a collective approach involving governments, communities, and humanitarian organizations. In view of this, SEMA recognizes the critical roles of the Nigerian Red Cross in disaster management.”
During the meeting, Mr Abubakar Abdullahi, the State Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, expressed appreciation for SEMA’s recognition of the organization and emphasized the value of capacity building and collaboration in disaster management.
In a similar vein, KOSEMA engaged with Save The Children International Organization to strengthen their longstanding relationship and explore ways to enhance disaster response, particularly in the context of the predicted 2024 flood occurrence. The State Field Manager of Save The Children, Mr Imeh Samuel, commended SEMA for its progress and pledged continued cooperation in disaster management.
