Actress and filmmaker Chinenye Ulaegbu is rapidly establishing herself as a standout figure in the film industry.
Ulaegbu revealed that her recent short film, “Mira,” served as her final project while studying at the Delyork Creative Academy.
Reflecting on the film’s creation, she shared with Saturday Beats, “My directorial debut, ‘Mira,’ was my final project at the Delyork Creative Academy. Each director was tasked with pitching a story based on a theme of their choice. What they failed to mention was that only the top two stories would be selected for the final project. However, I understood the importance of delivering excellence, as I was always taught to be prepared. Ultimately, out of the seven directors who presented their stories, only two were chosen, mine being one of them.”
Discussing the inspiration behind the narrative, she explained, “It is a gender-focused film that sheds light on the detrimental effects of early marriage in Africa, particularly the adverse impact it has on young girls. This harmful practice is prevalent in numerous African nations, including Nigeria. I developed the story to raise awareness about the significance of providing girls with the education they deserve and the freedom to pursue their aspirations.”
Ulaegbu emphasized her extensive involvement in the film’s production process, ranging from crafting the story to overseeing the set and costume design. Additionally, she actively participated in the post-production phase, contributing to the editing and sound design aspects.
