The EndBadGovernance protesters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have departed the Moshood Abiola Stadium and convened at the popular Berger Roundabout.
An FCT High Court had previously ordered the protesters to confine their demonstrations to the stadium. In compliance with the court order, the protesters gathered at the stadium on Thursday.
They resisted pressure from security operatives to protest within the stadium’s premises. After reports emerged of other protesters at the Eagles Square being harassed by security personnel, the protesters left the stadium and marched in large numbers. Upon their arrival at the Berger Roundabout, the police officers guarding the site repeatedly utilized tear gas against them.
Our correspondent, who was present at the stadium at 7 am on Friday, did not observe any protesters. However, it was subsequently learned the protesters had changed location of their gathering. At the time of filing this report, the protesters were assembling at Berger Roundabout.
