‘I Stand by My Words Without Apology’ -Wike to PDP Governors

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has made it clear that he will not apologize for his recent threats directed at governors who attempt to interfere in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. Wike voiced his position during a recent interview where he elaborated on his stance and the circumstances leading to his statements.

The controversy began when several governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State amidst the political turmoil affecting the region. This support angered Wike, who had previously warned that he would take drastic measures against any governor trying to meddle in Rivers State’s internal affairs.

In his appearance on the TV program, Wike reiterated his refusal to back down from his threats. He stated, “I made my position clear to the governors’ forum, and I repeat without any apologies to anyone anywhere. Even if the heavens fall, there will still be peace.” This comment underscores Wike’s firm stance and his unwillingness to be swayed by external pressures or apologies.

Wike further explained that while he may not have personal knowledge of the governor of Zamfara State, he has established relationships with the other governors. He criticized their actions, stating that they should not expect him to remain passive when they interfere in Rivers State’s matters.

He expressed frustration at the way the governors’ forum handled the situation, particularly their public endorsement of Fubara, which he believes undermines the processes and constitution of their party.

He emphasized, “I know all the other governors, and they know me. We have a relationship. When you come out and publicly support someone in Rivers State, whether legally or not, and I, as an FCT Minister from Rivers State, am forced to listen, you expect me to sit back and do nothing just because you are a governor?” This comment reflects Wike’s view that his role and responsibilities as a representative of Rivers State require him to take a stand against what he perceives as undue interference.
