The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has expressed deep sadness over the recent building collapse in Ibadan that claimed lives and left several injured. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Olugbemiga Ayoade, on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Olubadan described the incident as both tragic and deeply concerning.
The unfortunate event occurred on Thursday in the Jegede area of Ona Ara Local Government, with reports indicating that approximately ten people lost their lives, and several others suffered varying injuries. Oba Olakulehin conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and other affected victims, urging a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Disturbed by the incident, the Olubadan called on state and national emergency agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency, to promptly provide necessary relief materials to support the victims and their families. He also appealed to professionals in the construction and planning sectors to adhere strictly to protocols and use appropriate materials to prevent such tragedies.
The Olubadan’s statement reads, “The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olakulehin, extends his heartfelt sympathy to the victims and families affected by the building collapse in Ibadan. According to available reports, about ten people lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries. This tragic event must be thoroughly investigated to prevent future occurrences.”
He urged all relevant agencies and stakeholders to prioritize safety in building construction to ensure such incidents are avoided in the future. “I am calling on the construction professionals to follow every necessary protocol before, during, and after building projects in Ibadanland.”
Concluding his message, Oba Olakulehin prayed for the safety and protection of lives and property in Ibadan, Oyo State, and across Nigeria during his reign.
