Francis Odinaka Uzoho, the youngest foreign goalkeeper ever to make his debut in the Spanish La Liga at the age of 18, is reportedly being sought after by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s childhood club, Malmö FF.
The renowned footballer retired last season after achieving success with every club he faced, showcasing a collection of spectacular goals.
Malmö FF, his former club, currently leads the Sweden Allsvenskan first-division league, sitting seven points ahead of Djurgården. According to reports from, the 23-time Swedish League Champions are interested in acquiring the services of Nigeria’s Francis Uzoho from Omonia Nicosia. The club has initiated contact with Omonia Nicosia regarding the former Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper for a potential move to Sweden.
Uzoho is valued at approximately €500k, and his contract with Omonia is set to expire in the summer of 2027. However, the transfer fee should not pose a challenge for the Swedish club, which is on track to secure its 24th league title.
Despite being considered Omonia’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Fabiano, Uzoho contributed to the team’s success by winning the Cypriot Cup in 2022 and 2023.
In March 2022, Uzoho represented Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana, where his mistake led to Thomas Partey’s goal slipping past him, resulting in Nigeria missing out on a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Despite apologizing for the error, Uzoho struggled to maintain his starting position on the team. He started five out of Nigeria’s six games in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers but lost his place in the starting lineup to Stanley Nwabali during the AFCON 2023 tournament, only making substitute appearances after the Chippa United goalkeeper sustained an injury.
Uzoho was omitted from Finidi George’s 23-man squad for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Olorunleke Ojo selected as the team’s goalkeepers.
